Non-profit Status Coming

Thanks to the hard work of Bhaktin Cindy (or Sindhi as we like to call her), Gopal Jiu Publications is approaching having a non-profit organization in it's name in the USA. Amongst other things this will enable us to:

* Have a bank account in the name of Gopal Jiu

* Allow donars who are US citizens to have tax write-offs for whatever they contribute

* Apply for possible research and printing grants from various government and non-government institutions.

We will keep everyone posted as things develop.

Fundraising Update for New Publications

Thanks so much to all of the kind supporters of this project! Since we have posted the newsletter we have received two donations, one for US $700.00 and another for US $ 250.00. We are still short about $550 to be able to print what we have planned. If you would like to help for this noble cause. Please contact us at or you can directly make a donation via PayPal on the bottom of the homepage of our main website:

I have made three blog entries below about the new publications.

Prayers to the Bhagavatam

We are now preparing this booklet to have ready for Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami's disappearance festival. Many devotees have asked us to reprint the prayers he would recite before class, this will have that as well as a newly edited lecture from him on the glories of the Bhagavatam, and some materials from His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur.

KK #11 The Glories of Srimad Bhagavatam

At the time of this posting, the magazine is a few weeks away from completion. Articles will include:

* Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada on the importance of hearing Srimad Bhagavatam as compared to reading it.

* A translation done by Sri Gopiparanadhana Prabhu of the Bhagavat Mahatmya story from the Skanda Purana. This includes the episode of Vajranabh bringing Krishna's queens to Vrindavan and meeting Uddhava.

* An elaborate lecture on the glories of Srimad Bhagavatam by Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami. This includes his own elaborate translation of the Bhagavata Mahatmya from Padma Purana and the story of Narada Muni meeting Bhakti Devi.

* Srila Sanatan Goswami and the Bhagavatam: Little known excerpts and prayers from Srila Sanatan Goswami's life and writings that illustrate his profound attachment to the Bhagavata.

New Gadeigiri CD

Here are some pics from the new CD that is about to come out. I haven't figured out yet how to post sound here, or I would also include a short excerpt.

CD box cover

This old picture of Gopal will come on the back

Damodar Giri Prabhu and the Gadeigiri

The CD will include never before done translations and transliterations of all the Oriya songs. Here is an excerpt of the text from the back of the CD:

The Gadeigiri kirtaniyas are famous for their expertise in the traditional ranihati (also known as raniti) style of kirtana started by Srila Shyamananda Prabhu, the sixteenth-century Gaudiya Vaishnava acarya who spread Vaishnavism all over Orissa. The heart of the Gadeigiri kirtanas is the village’s beloved deity Sri Gopal Jiu. It is said that Gopal came to Gadeigiri in east-central Orissa from Vrindavan in the early 1700’s just to hear the kirtana of the Giri family, who have sung for him ever since. The songs and musical styles contained on this CD have been handed down from generation to generation in the Giri family for over three hundred years. The third song on this CD is part of a larger collection of songs that describe a wonderful pastime of how Krishna once took sannyasa to pacify the loving sulkiness of Srimati Radharani. This complete story has been elaborately translated in Sri Krishna Kathamrita magazine, issue nine.

Publishing for Feb 2006

Dear friends,

Hare Krishna. Please accept our humble obeisances. Jaya Sri Sri Guru Gauranga! We hope that all is well for your bhajan and your service.

Gopal Jiu Publications and Sri Krishna Kathamrita magazine were started under the inspiration and instruction of Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja. Several times Maharaja commented on the society of his spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, “We should work to help uphold the prestige of ISKCON. The best way to do that is to have nice hari-katha and nice vaishnava dealings.” Gopaljiu Publications and Sri Krishna Kathamrita magazine are our humble attempts to help fulfill this desire.

Below is the latest news from Gopaljiu Publications:

We recently started three blog sites for the purpose of informing our friends of the activities of Gopal Jiu Publications. Please visit the sites and tell your friends about them!

The first site is dedicated to the research and parikramas going on in connection with Gopal Jiu Publications, the second is a site dedicated to Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami and the third (this one) gives some news about our publishing work. We intend to update the sites on a regular basis. If you would like to be notified whenever there is a new posting, write and let us know:

60 pages with 30 in full color.

The latest edition of Sri Krishna Kathamrita was released in Vrindavan at the beginning of the month of Kartika. 4,000 copies were printed of this issue, to respond to the growing demand for the magazine. We are happy to say that as with the past issues, this newest one again received a very enthusiastic response. The most common comment was, “This is the best one yet!”

Here are a few written comments:

Thank you very much for your new magazine. It looks very well done as usual. Please keep up this magnificent preaching work; you’re inspiring a lot of devotees with Krishna consciousness, giving them a sublime taste. Thanks!

Ekanatha Das, North Carolina

I very much appreciated your perspective on Srila Bhaktisiddhanta’s “Putana institution” article. Superexcellent.

-- Jayadvaita Swami

Thank you very much for the new issue of Krishna Kathamrita. I just finished it and thought it was great. I couldn’t judge which article I liked best -- Guruseva, Putana Vadha or False Gurus. Your articles seemed very similar to my style, or at least similar to themes I like. “False Gurus” often seemed like some parts of my book, “Unspoken Obstacles...” I like how you ended it, giving hope and then pointing it toward oneself.

-- Purnacandra Das

Thank you very, very much for the recent issue of, Sri Krishna Kathamrita”. I haven’t finished all the articles yet but I especially liked Maharaja’s article on guru seva. I read it twice and will probably do so again.

-- Sarva-drk Das, Denver

I relished the Putana issue. I even used it in a class that I give weekly to the teens in the gurukula.

-- Madhavendra Puri Das, Vrindavan

In your current Krishna-kathamrita (#10), I particularly took notice of the article “Two Considerations” by Gour Govinda Maharaja. Right on!

-- Jaya Vijay Das, Vrindavan

Many outside sites kindly advertised the new issue for us. If you would like to see the advertisements, here are the links. (Note: Gopal Jiu Publications is not affiliated with any these groups and is not responsible for the content on their sites.)

A printed edition of issues 42 to 65 of our popular email magazine. This is the third collected volume to date.

The annual disappearance festival of Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami will be observed on the 18th and 19th of February. This festival has become very popular; every year between 15 to 30 senior devotees and sannyasis attend to discuss about Srila Gour Govinda Swami. As we have done the last two years, for this upcoming festival we intend to bring to Mayapur, Sri Damodar Giri Prabhu (the cousin brother of Srila Gour Govinda Swami) and the Gadeigiri kirtan group. We are still short of funds for this festival. If you would like to help, contact us at: or for more information go to:

We are working now to try to have ready before Srila Gour Govinda Swami’s Disappearance day the following publications:

* Sri Krishna Kathamrita magazine #11, "The Glories of Srimad Bhagavatam"

* An audio CD of Gadeigiri kirtans entitled “The Day Krishna Took Sannyasa”

* A booklet entitled, “The Glories of Srimad Bhagavatam”.

Aside from the above, some of the devotees at the ISKCON Krishna Balaram Mandir in Bhubaneswar have come forward and kindly volunteered to reprint the first four issues of Sri Krishna Kathamrita magazine, which have long been out of stock. They hope to have those magazines ready also in time for Gour Govinda Maharaja’s disappearance day.

We have about half of the funds required for the above printing. If anyone would like to help we need about US $1,500 more. Contact us at: or for more information go to:

Persons and groups who keep a substantial stock of Gopal Jiu Publications now include:

* Bhaktivedanta Library Services in Belgium

* Cindy Rumsey in Reno, Nevada, USA

* ISKCON Vrindaban

* Krishna Culture in Houston, Texas, USA

* The Malaysian BBT in Kuala Lumpur

* Ramachandra Das in Singapore

* Tota Gopinath Das in Victoria, Australia
